Pay The Right Amount With The Correct Tax Withholding
By Darrin T. Mish of Law Offices of Darrin T. Mish, P.A.
Pay The Right Amount With The Correct Tax Withholding You do not wish to end up paying the IRS too little or too much at tax time. You'll be maximizing your tax paying efficiency if you adjust your tax withholding correctly by properly filling out the complicated W-4 form. People think ending up with a tax refund after filing taxes is a good thing, similar to a savings account. However, what you're actually doing is loaning the government your money interest free. You can have money deducted from your paycheck for taxes in better ways. Among the choices is to simply have that portion of money taken out of your paycheck automatically and deposited into an interest-bearing savings account or mutual fund. Think it won't make much of a difference and that you won't really have any money at the end of the year? How do you assume your tax refund gets so large? It essentially just all adds up. What you owe in taxes should be only what you need to pay. You must make sure that your tax withholding is correct by periodically reviewing your exemptions as they might change within the year. A good time to achieve this is in early November to provide you time to make changes. Make sure you update your tax record and review your tax withholding after you have filed your tax return. To steer clear of IRS issues, ensure that you are not over or underpaying your taxes. If you are changing your dependents, having a child, or getting divorced or married, check the amounts of your tax withholding. Some people do seem to believe that the W-4 worksheet is a bit too complicated. It actually is easier than it looks. In fact, regardless of how difficult you may assume that the W-4 worksheet is, it's always worth it to spare the effort to properly select the correct amount of withholding. You don't want to end up having to pay the IRS a considerable sum because you accomplished it incorrectly. Situations such as these occur regularly to many taxpayers, and it is very unfortunate, knowing how easily it can be stopped. Depending on your specific case, it may be advantageous to consult your withholding levels with a tax professional . Even if you have already accomplished the W-4 worksheet at your current job, you can always change the withholding amount and update it many times a year. You wish to make sure that you only pay what you owe to the IRS, so check the amount of your tax withholding if you get promoted or change to a lower paying job. Accomplishing so will avoid a huge IRS problem. Darrin T. Mish is a Nationally recognized Attorney whose practice focuses on representing clients across the United States with IRS Problems.
